(2020) present molecular and morphological evidence for treating M. errans as a separate species, with M. hirundo no longer recorded from Australia."   M. errans is found in  "New South Wales, ....... Queensland .......Northern half of NT .... Torres Strait Islands, ... Norfolk Island, Tasman Sea; West Papua, Solomon Islands"
