User's notes

This is additional detail for previous sighting 4532893 to provide close-up detail of the out-of-focus pattern on the caterpillar’s body. The first three images are taken at up to 3X magnification and show that whilst the spiracles and body folds are in focus, the body pattern adjacent to them and within the surface, is such as to appear out of focus. This is particularly clear in the first image. Presumably the body pattern has evolved this way over time to provide some evolutionary benefit for this type of caterpillar.
