Miniscule van der Waals’ forces act on large numbers of these small hairs on each furry seta allowing the beetle (and other insects with this feature) to adhere to surfaces with ease. The fourth image provides details of the jaws and eyes whilst the final image provides some detail of the underside of the rear of the beetle's body.
