User's notes

Additional close-up details for sighting 4496967. The first image provides details of antennae, jaws and compound eyes. The second image shows the type of antennae. The third image provides details of the claws and footpads that allow the beetle to adhere to surfaces. The footpads are covered with small hairs or setae that branch out into even smaller hairs. Miniscule van der Waals’ forces act on large numbers of these small hairs on each furry seta allowing the beetle (and other insects with this feature) to adhere to surfaces with ease. The fourth image provides details of the jaws and eyes whilst the final image provides some detail of the underside of the rear of the beetle's body.
