I would suggest your orchid is Caleana major, Flying Duck Orchid. There is another, 'Small Duck Orchid' Paracaleana minor, (formerly Caleana minor.) I have not heard of anyone sighting the small duck orchid in the Noosa Shire. Hope this helps..... Joan Heavey, (Noosa Parks Association - Botany Co-leader.)
Thanks heaps for that Joan. Are you interested in being an expert moderator on the Noosa site? You can identify sightings at your own leisure i.e. there is no pressure or minimum commitment etc. Cheers Aaron.
That's terrific Joan We can make a moderator for all plants or just some categories. For example you may not be interested in seaweeds, seagrasses or algae. Look at our list of categories: https://noosa.naturemapr.org/Community/Categories/Guide/1173 What would you prefer? Regards Michael
Hi Michael, I am happy to do ‘Lillie’s & Irises, Daisies, Climbers & Mistletoes, Orchids, Peas and other Wildflowers at this stage. I am only an amateur botanist but I believe my knowledge will be of assistance to noosa.naturemapr. I also have an interest in fauna so will comment if i can help with ID.
