So disappointed to see this (actually, I'm furious). A nearby property has given permission for bee hives to be situated near flowering gums. At least three swarms (that I know of) have dispersed from the hives like a cancer, taking over hollows and nest boxes. This nest box was provided by donation for native species following the 2019/2020 fires, and had been surveyed just months earlier, where we had found evidence of use by mammals such as possums/gliders. Perhaps one was in the box when the bees entered . . . but all we'll find now will be the skeleton . . .
