I have revised my suggested to ID to Doratifera sp. (genus) being not sure that I have a basis for distinguishing this specimen to species given that D. quadriguttata and D. casta have overlapping ranges (based on the ALA evidence) but they look quite similar as adults. It would appear though that adult D. quadriguttatata moths show clear black spots on the wings whereas C. casta are darker looking with less distinct spotting. Donhe has advised me he has reared Doratifera sp, from larvae (D. quadriguttatata larvae are green whereas D. casta larvae are black) - however he does not know how to distinguish the adults. Bold Systems 4 shows only one D. casta specimen. Donhe has suggested that looking at the ANIC holdings of these species may provide a means of distinguishing them.
Many thanks, very interesting. We see these caterpillars regularly (see added photo, from January a few years ago). I realise it's not definitive, however the location is the same.
OK, thanks very much for this extra 'supporting' evidence from the same location. Your larvae are a good match for the D. quadrigutttata larvae wihich are illustrated on Donhe's LPD website, see:- http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/lima/quadriguttata.html
